Are there any relaxation or calming techniques that can be used before a performance?

Question by foxstunna31: Are there any relaxation or calming techniques that can be used before a performance?
So I’m going to be in a play tomorrow for my school; but the thing is, I have anxiety and i noticed while practicing that i get extremely nervous…like, my heart starts pounding really fast and my voice gets really shaky. So I was wondering if there are any calming or relaxation techniques that I could use to help me stay calm so I don’t have a panic attack on stage. Any websites or video links would be helpful! Thanks so much (:

Yes, there is a powerful technique named creative visualization to get
a greater inner strength and physical energy, an immediate calming status and focus on your goal.
Visualization involves taking some time to relax your mind { usually a few seconds}, and then following this by vividly imagining yourself doing the perfect performance-and doing this on a regular basis allows you to pre program your performance , Use the power of your imagination.I know that what you will attract more of what you are focusing on, so its important to focus on success.I know because I practice creative visualization about 30 years on everyday basis and I wish I would have $ 1 for each my realization in any field I wanted., in any subject, small or huge including my health. So, now answering your question , you benefit from first hand authentic information.
I’ll give you an example how this works. When you think about running , as you sit in your chair, or lay in your bed,{ it is impossible to think only in words. Any thought is escorted by an image}, you will be accessing the muscles in your legs.
Learn about this wonderful technique from Internet but finally choose any technique you feel comfortable with, the main point remains the same, to imagine in your mind what you want to perform, exactly how you want to be. Putting a bit emotions in this and you’ll be on your path to realize it. For sure.
Also Breathing correctly is important for dispelling the toxins and wastes from your body; in fact, it is estimated that we expel only about 30 percent of toxins in our bodies through the bowels and bladder-the rest is all respiratory. Breathing is also a great way to clear your mind, boost your energy, and improve your mood. Practice deep, slow, rhythmic, breathing daily with mind-body disciplines
Good luck

Breathing And Relaxation Techniques To Sleep Better

Relaxation techniques will help your body to wind down and prepare for the sleep cycle.

Try this breathing technique when you first get into bed:

1.Take a deep breath.
2.Breathe in through your nose and visualize the air moving down to your stomach.
3.As you breathe in again silently count to four.
4.Purse your lips as you exhale slowly.
5.This time count silently to eight.
6.Repeat this process six to ten times.

The results of this breathing technique are immediate. You will feel your shoulders and arms relaxing. Your chest will feel less constricted and you will feel less stress and tension.

Practice this breathing technique on a daily basis so that it becomes a natural routine for you and helps to induce natural sleep.

As well as using breathing techniques to encourage natural sleep you can try several relaxation exercises. The goal is to relax your mind and let your body unwind and surrender to sleep.

Try the following relaxation exercise before you get into bed:

1.Lay on your back on the floor with your feet slightly apart, your hands by your sides, and your palms turned upward.

2.Close your eyes and concentrate on every part of your body.

3.Begin at the top of your head and work your way down to your toes.

4.Start by feeling your forehead tense, then your eyes, face, and jaw.

5.Tense and release each muscle group, such as your shoulders and neck.

6.Give attention to each area of your body from the top of your head, down through the trunk of your body, down along your legs, and ending at the tip of your toes.

7.Stay in this relaxed condition for a few minutes. Concentrate on your breathing and let all worry and stress dissipate from your mind and body. Make sure that your breathing comes from deep in your stomach and flows slowly and evenly.

8.Stretch slowly before standing.

The above exercise will tell your body and mind that it is okay to settle down, leaving behind thoughts of worry, fear, and stress.

There are many more techniques and exercises available to promote deep breathing and relaxation. You will have to find what method works best for you.

Your goal is to recognize that deep breathing and concentrated relaxation are tools available for you to achieve natural sleep.

How To Relax Under Pressure

If you are stressed in almost any situation, chances are you need to relax more. Before we go there, let me talk about relaxing under pressure in sport and then we can talk about business and family situations.

I was down at the Martial Arts center the other day and I was training, doing a new drill that I haven't done before. As I was practicing the routine, one of the Black Belts came up to me and said 'relax' and I'm thinking "I am relaxed". So I thought I had better relax more. What was he talking about? How can you relax when you are trying to fight, how can you relax when you are trying to fight for your life, how can you relax when you are under pressure? Under intense pressure you do need to relax, you need to relax so much so that you can actually deliver your technique at high speed and effectively. On the other hand, when you are tense and all tight, it is actually harder to deliver a technique and your reactions are slower. Read the rest of this entry »

Progressive Muscle Relaxation

Progressive muscle relaxation [PMR] is a relaxation technique of stress management developed by American physician Edmund Jacobson in 1934. This progressive muscle relaxation technique is focused on tensing and releasing tensions in the 16 different muscle groups. Jacobson reasoned that since muscular tension is usually followed as a by product of anxiety, one can lower and reduce anxiety by understanding and learning how to self relax those muscular tension.
